Australia is a world leader in protecting student tuition fees. The Australian Government’s Tuition Protection Service (TPS) ensures that international students with a valid visa and domestic students on FEE-HELP will not lose any unspent tuition fees.

Overseas Students Tuition Protection

If your education provider is unable to fully deliver your course, and cannot help you find a suitable alternative or provide a refund, then the TPS will contact you to arrange an alternative course, find an alternative provider or refund any unspent tuition fees. See their website for more information on closures and defaults: https://www.dese.gov.au/tps/international-students#toc-closures-and-defaults

Domestic Students Tuition Protection

Students paying their fees through FEE-HELP will receive a recredit of your loan for open units under the TPS, if a suitable alternative course or provider cannot be found.

As of January 2020, the only group not covered by the TSP are domestic students currently paying their fees through a method other than using FEE-HELP. Discussions are underway to provide an assurance scheme for this final group. NAPS has begun the process of connecting to the scheme that will be offered by Independent Higher Education Australia (IHEA www.ihea.edu.au) for such students after the discussions have been finalised.

The NAPS Statement of Tuition Assurance states:

In the unlikely event that NAPS is unable to deliver a course in full, each student has the right to choose whether they wish to have a refund of any unspent pre-paid tuition fees or accept assistance to find a place in a similar or equivalent course. If a student prefers a refund, NAPS will pay this to the student within two weeks of the course no longer being delivered.

If NAPS is unable to meet its obligation to deliver on this assurance, all our international and domestic FEE-HELP students have additional tuition protection through the Australian Government’s Tuition Protection Service (TPS). This is an Australian Government initiative to ensure that all students are able to either complete their studies in another course or with another education provider or receive a refund of their unspent tuition fees in the case of provider default.
