Graduate Diploma of Information Technology

The Graduate Diploma of Information Technology (IT) is ideal for students seeking to build on their foundational IT skills while gaining expertise in advanced areas such as programming, database management, and cyber security. This course equips students with the ability to leverage project management principles and IT-related logical thinking to devise and implement effective business solutions across various industries, including IT, communications, management, and business. Students will also learn to critically evaluate ethical considerations, privacy challenges, and information security issues in the ever-evolving technological landscape. This program is tailored for IT graduates or those with a Graduate Certificate in IT, looking to expand their knowledge and prepare for the dynamic demands of the industry.

General Admission Requirements

• All students must be formally admitted to the Academy before commencing their degree program.
• Admission is based on the ATAR and NAPS’ Admissions Policy.

Course Requirements

For Students with Non-ICT Background

• Completion of an Australian Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any discipline; or
• Previous admission and completion of at least one semester of an AQF Level 9 or equivalent course in IT or a related discipline.

For Students with ICT Background

• Completion of an Australian Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in IT or a related discipline; or
• Previous admission and completion of at least one semester of an AQF Level 9 or equivalent course in IT or a related discipline.

Additional Admission Pathways

Students with Disabilities or Special needs 

The same conditions and procedures apply to the admissions of students with a disability as to all other students, however NAPS fosters an environment of inclusiveness so special measures are provided to support their learning when required and discussed as part of the admission process. 

Mature Age Applicants 

• A student who does not meet the standard ‘school leavers’ criteria may apply for admission as a mature age applicant if they: 

• are 21 years of age or older on 1st March of the year they intend to commence study; do not have the required ATAR for admission to the course;  

• do not have a record of tertiary study; and have completed an approved preparation course of not less than 6 months duration; or  

• have completed a vocational training course and have been assessed by the Dean or nominee to be able to undertake tertiary studies 

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students  

NAPS is committed to equity of access and supports alternative entry admission schemes particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island students who are encouraged to apply. The Academic Board may approve such admissions to:  

• encourage and assist indigenous students to enrol into studies; or  

• provide access to the educationally or socially disadvantaged; or  

• address the under-representation of designated groups.  

Articulation Arrangements and RPL  

A student may be granted advanced standing for an equivalent subject studied in another institution where this unit was successfully completed towards a similar or related degree, or through other significant learning which the Academic Dean (or delegate) considers equivalent.  All credit transfer arrangements will be subject to the NAPS Recognition of Prior Learning Policy.  

English Language Requirements  

The medium of instruction at NAPS is English. All students are therefore required to demonstrate a minimum level of proficiency in the English language to qualify for admission.  

The following criteria apply: 

• Students from English speaking countries including Australia must have completed a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent. 

• Students who apply onshore or directly from their home countries must have studied at least 2 years in English, with t an IELTS (Academic) test with a minimum score of Overall 6.0 (no band less than 6.0) or equivalent in TOFEL or other accredited English language test program provided by an accredited supplier of such tests.   

• When an IELTS score or equivalent is used to demonstrate English proficiency, that score must have been attained within two years of the date of application for admission. 

• The Graduate Diploma of Information Technology opens doors to diverse and dynamic career opportunities across various industries, including security and defence, education, aerospace, health, business, and finance. Graduates acquire the skills and expertise to thrive in roles that require the development, management, and maintenance of IT systems and software solutions.
