Dr Sera Yilmaz holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Social Science (Honours) and has recently completed her PhD in Social Science, which focuses on Australia's skilled migration program. She currently serves as a Manager at the Multicultural Disability Advocacy Association (MDAA) in New South Wales, a peak body dedicated to multicultural disability advocacy. At MDAA, Sera oversees short-term advocacy services, social programs and systemic advocacy that cater to individuals of all ages and diverse backgrounds.

Sera brings a wealth of experience from various professional settings, including her work as a research assistant in higher education, as an advisor in Federal Parliament and as a former Councillor and Deputy Mayor on her local council. She has presented her PhD findings at prestigious international conferences, including the Metropolis Conference in Berlin, Germany, in 2022, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2024.

In addition to her managerial role, Sera is a casual lecturer at Excelsia University College, where she teaches courses such as Law, Accountability, and Professional Judgment in Social Work and Social and Political Institutions in Australia. She is deeply passionate about the social sciences and is committed to empowering individuals to advocate for their rights and achieve greater equity in society.
